Video: Cycling and style

In case anyone's interested in my views on cycling and style - particularly the crossover between technical innovation and luxury - here's a video of an interview I did with Konrad Olsson during Pitti.

Konrad is the editor-in-chief of Plaza Uomo magazine, who invited me out to Stockholm last year. He was running a display called 'Giro D'Stil' during Pitti, where brands had models wearing their clothes parading around the city on bikes. Personally, I'd have preferred to see them actually race, but then that might have scuffed the loafers.

Apologies for my rapid and slightly erratic speech. It had been a long day.

I am wearing:

  • Hopsack DB blazer from Elia Caliendo
  • Navy Friday Polo (news on the next batch coming soon)
  • Pale grey Crispaire trousers from Solito
  • Green Bresciani socks
  • Bespoke polo-suede oxfords from Stefano Bemer (review next week)

Thanks Simon, that was very interesting. Didn’t seem erratic to me. I’ve got to invest in one of those polos. Are there any short sleeved pique cotton polos that you would recommend with a decent collar stand? I used to like Napoleonerba but they seem to be out of stock everywhere.

Interesting interview Simon! I’d like to ask, what color is your blazer? It looked sort of aubergine in the video…

Any favorite in bike clothing? Rapha? Their shoes are not the best. Any favorite in cycling shoes? And helmet?

Thanks!
Been on a few trips with them in Provence as well as I like their style.
But helmets? Which do you prefer?

Simon –

Just stumbled onto the video on YouTube…

I am blown away by the ease with which you communicate complex technical aspects of clothes making. You are a savant. Have you ever thought about doing a collaboration with Sartori at Zegna? You and he are kindred spirits: Sartori is a true pioneer in luxury/tech fabrics and product innovation – and you can communicate those kinds of elements better than anyone I’ve heard. Maybe a Crompton for Zegna line of commuter wear?
